We dissected a few vibrators and even spoke to a friend that is a Mechanical Engineer to get to the bottom of this. Vibrators generate vibration in the same way that an imballanced tire on your car makes your steering wheel shake. The photograph above shows a vibrator that we cut apart to look inside. Besides having a little electric motor inside, there is a little lead weight that is attached to the motor shaft. This weight is offset from the center like a wobbly wheel. As the motor spins, the weight makes the vibrator shake. Vibrators with variable speed control allow the vibrator to shake faster and harder or slower and more gently. Why does a vibrator work? Well, there are many nerve endings in the pelvic region. Most are on the surface and are sensitive to touch. The vibrations continue to trigger these nerve endings producing a wave of sensation. ![]()
