Tooth Brushing Tips
|Brushing and Flossing Advice from a Super Hero|
Superheroes aren't the only ones who can have pearly whites. You, too, can have a smile that will stop any train, plane or automobile. First, put your toothbrush bristles along your gum line at a 45-degree angle, the gently brush two or three teeth at a time, moving back and forth. After you get the outsides, work the inside, using the same 45-degree angle. Then shift your toothbrush vertically to hit behind your front teeth. Finally, scrub the biting surfaces of your top and bottom rows of teeth. Don't forget to replace your toothbrush every three months! And remember to brush gently, twice a day.
The Proper Way to Floss
Part of my superhero uniform is my sparkling smile. Sure, I brush everyday, but I also floss in order to remove plaque and food from hard-to-reach places. Plaque buildup may lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing daily takes me out of harm's way.
To properly floss, begin with about 18 inches of dental floss and wind most of it around your fingers, leaving about two inches free in between both hands. Hold the floss tightly and slide it gently up-and-down in between each tooth. Curve around the base of each tooth and get around the gum line. If you don't like flossing because your teeth are tightly packed, try Glide Dental Floss, as it works well in tough to reach spots. When you're done, don't forget to throw your floss in the trash! Mister Private doesn't recommend saving it for later.
